2008 Concours D'Elégance
Report by Concours Chair & Chief Judge, John Taglione ...
Another Concours d’Elégance has come and gone and this year’s was very successful by all accounts as we moved to a new site at the Ontario Science Centre.
The rain gods were kind to us again, extending our string of good luck going back over twenty years. The rain held out until the end of the judging - Hugh Dow's D-type was under the tent to keep it from filling up with water - and only lasted a half hour, just in time for the dinner to begin.
The lightning show was very impressive as the black clouds built up around the judging tent. There were a few lighting strikes to the north of us. It quickly became hot and sticky when the sun came out, as it had been cool and pleasant until then. Every thing was dry within minutes and the sky was clear without a cloud in sight.
We held a raffle this year which went well – thank you to Geoff and Nicky Cramb for running it- and we had a good turnout from our walk in traffic.
We would like to thank all the volunteers, all the judges, Jaguar Canada, Terry Budd and the Ontario Science Centre for their help and support without which we could not have held a successful Concours.
There were 38 cars judged and 25 in display for a total of 63 cars, which is up from last year.
- Championship Class - 20 cars
- Special Class - 2 cars
- Driven Class - 16 cars
We had new and renewing members show up at the registration desk with some of the new members having their cars judged for the first time.
The dinner was at the Galileo Bistro in the Science Centre, the food and the company was good. There were 57 people for dinner, which was up from last year.
- The Judges’ choice for Championship Division was Marcel Lehoullier's 1959 XK150S
- The Judges’ choice for Driven Division was Robert Ayotte's 1970 E-Type.
Overall, It was a very successful Concours and everyone seemed to be happy with the choice of the Ontario Science Centre, who went out of their way to help make it a successful event.
We will be back next year at the Science Centre for our 50th.
