The Red Baron

THE RED BARON is still regarded as "the ace of aces."

He was born in 1892 and died on April 21, 1918, when he was shot from the air above the Somme River.

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen is recognized as the most successful fighter pilot of World War I.  He is credited with 80 confirmed kills.

He was downed by a single shot from a .303 rifle or machine gun. Wikipedia, the free Internet-based encylopedia, has an informative entry on The Red Baron and his demise. You can go directly there by clicking,    WIKIPEDIA

OJOA members were fascinated to discover that the seat from Richthofen's feared Fokker triplane, a wing section and fuselage fabric was at RCMI, where we enjoyed our Christmas dinner.

The photographs below are high-resolution images, meaning they are LARGE files.  This way you can download them to your own desktop and see them in larger detail.   (For PC:  Just Right-Click and then Save.  For Macintosh: just Right-Click and Download Image to Disk.)

These Richthofen artifacts are priceless and are in excellent care within RCMI.  Several generations have already viewed and studied these artifacts and countless generations will, undoubtedly, continue to study them.
